ABOUT ME!

Hi! My name is Avery and I competitively figure skated for over a decade of my life. I started skating at 9 years old. By the time I was 13, I decided to quit traditional school to follow my dreams. From then on, I trained twice a day for the next five years of my life. Skating allowed me to go to the college of my dreams in New York where I could skate at one of the most beautiful rinks I’ve ever seen. The video below is of me training at Colgate my freshman year after officially retiring from competing!

So, what is she up to nowadays?

DIML: PHOTO ESSAY EDITION ✨

This is a typical Saturday in my life in the Winter and the Summer! I coach students through the Learn to Skate USA program! During the week, I teach skill sets. But, on Saturday mornings, I put on my choreographer hat and prepare students for shows! I am not a morning person but I get excited to wake up and go see my young girls I coach! They never cease to make me laugh… which is impressive at 8am. This morning, two of my girls told me about their boyfriend of the week in school. They are in second grade, haha! Training isn’t all fun and games though, we get on the ice at 9:30, work on skills and programs until 10:30, do a full run through in front of a representative audience at 10:45, and then quickly get our skates off in order to be in the gym by 11:00 where we learn new choreography off the ice (I also routinely give us a much-needed 10 minute gossip break).
