Last week, Coach Peggy took me on the big girl rink. I had now passed seven skating tests and was almost through all the basics. I had flown through nearly every skill. I thought the big girl rink would be super exciting, but it was scary. No one was in my way, but I was in theirs. Everyone stared at me, disgusted, as I pushed off with one foot around the rink. One big girl was doing her program, and I froze as she started hurdling towards me backwards. She stopped an inch away from me, whipped her head around, and groaned directly in my face. I was horrified. Mom eagerly asked me how my first lesson with the big girls went, and I explained that I almost died. She had already seen. Coach Peggy scolded me for not wanting to go back to the big girl ice this Thursday, but Mom agreed I wasn’t ready. Today, Mom and Dad came to watch me skate. I always love when Dad comes because I get to show off everything I’ve been working on. Coach Peggy and I have been trying to get my first spin for around six months now. We upped our lessons to three times a week a few months ago. The other day she snapped at me and told me I’d never get it. I didn’t understand that concept, so I didn’t think much of it. I kept trying my best. But, for the first time ever, trying wasn’t enough. Today, Mom let me get gummies again. “I must finally be getting my spin,” I tell myself as I approach the cyan blue counter that had paint peeling off it. I turn back around and notice my mom and dad don’t look happy, and Coach Peggy doesn’t either.
